T O P I C R E V I E WGuswasthemanDoes anyone know how many of the Precise/Topping Grumman 1/40 scale Lunar Module models were chrome and gold plated and/or who received and why?The chrome ones I have seen have all come on different wood bases with a metal Grumman part tag with the serial number for the LM associated with a particular Apollo mission, so am assuming they may have gone to astronauts and others tied to that mission. Thanks in advance for all help, much appreciated!dsenechalNot sure of the exact number of chrome LM models. However, to my knowledge, they went only to flown astronauts (presumably missions that involved a LM?), and very high NASA officials. For example, Jim Webb had a chrome LM — last I saw it was in a museum in Durham, North Carolina. I have seen a variety of bases: there really doesn't seem to be a "standard" for these. I've seen those that you described, as well as on a wooden disc with a curved brass plaque, on a square wooden base with the recipient's name, etc. Just guessing, but I'd think there were probably 20 or less of these made. Probably no way to ever know for sure.GuswasthemanThanks, that is fantastic to know! I very much enjoy getting the history behind memorabilia. The items are great, however the stories behind them are “priceless.”
